About The Event

After School Boat Building Program at Eleanor Boat House (CPD) -- for up to 16 participants ages 11 - 15 years old.  Join us for this 11-week After School Program to build a full size, fully functional boat and row it on the Chicago River.    

This After-School Boat Building Program will be held:

March 25 to May 31 (10-weeks) from 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays  

Plus Boat Launch Day on Saturday, June 6 from 9:30am - Noon 

At the Eleanor Boat House, 2828 W. Eleanor Street, Chicago, Illinois  

Program Cost: $53/participant -- this is normally $500/participant. 

 

You must Register with both Chicago Maritime Arts Center and the Chicago Park District and complete the necessary waiver and permission forms for both organizations. Both Registration Sites are below:

The program will be held in Building B of the Eleanor Street Boat House of the Chicago Park District.  Chicago Maritime Arts Center will provide the materials, tools, and instruction for teens to build and assemble one or more Bevin's Skiff (11' row boat). Participants should wear comfortable clothing that can get dirty (as we will be working with permanent glues and paint) and sturdy shoes (no open toes).  Participants learn teamwork, safety, basic tool use, construction, measuring, and assembly in addition to some basic boating skills, boat safety, and maritime ecology.  The program will conclude with the Boat Launch Day on Saturday morning for participants to launch, row, and show off the boats they built on the Chicago River.  Life jackets and safety boats are provided. Family and friends are encouraged to attend the Boat Launch Day to see the results, cheer the kids on, and join in the fun.
